Warren Miller... yeah baby

The Warren Miller film was super sweet. I know that happened along time ago but I'm not the most timely person so get me a break. But because I'm writing about it so long after it happened you know it had to be a blast. So they show the film in the Kent Concert Hall which holds 800 people or so and is totally filled with ski bums. This guy comes out before it starts and gets the crowd all pumped up by saying how great the sponsors are, and how great Utah snow is. The pumper up guy also talks about free stuff and everyone would yell. It seemed that all anybody had to say was powder, Utah, or free stuff and everyone would go nuts.
The film itself was awesome, tons of crazy skiers doing crazy things, and that is always awesome. Unfortunately I didn't win anything but with you ticket you got a free pass to the Canyons ski resort which is awesome.

Basically Warren Miller= AWESOME

Juniperus Scopulorum

I went hiking yesterday to the fabled Jardine Juniper (the scientific name is Juniperus Scopulorum hence the title of this post)! The Jardine Juniper is supposedly the oldest tree in Utah because it is 3200 years old! I thought it was gonna be a really gnarly but it actually was real big and the hike to it was really awesome. There were some great views and me and my buddy threw a rock of a cliff and it took 7 whole seconds for it to hit the bottom, that's a big cliff!

All Hallows Eve

So Halloween this year was different. First of all I didn't go trick or treating, I haven't been able to get candy for along time now but I would usually take my little brothers trick or treating. But instead of that I worked in the Haunted House that the Valley View towers put on. The RA for my floor was one of the guys in charge of the haunted house so I got to be a scary guy. The house ran on Tuesday and Wednesday from 7 to 11 and it was free. I was kinda skeptical on how scary it was actually going to be but the guys in charge really knew what they were doing so the house went really great. We actually had to turn people away at 11.

The HOWL!

So yesterday was the famous (or infamous) USU Howl. It was nuts, there were people everywhere. I wasn't planning on attending the Howl until Friday so my costume was rather lame, toga sheet thing. But it really doesn't matter because once you get their the biggest deal is dancing. There was also a hypnotist, live bands, and a DJ. The DJ was set up in the HUB, the food place in the lower level of the TSC (Taggert Student Center). The Hub isnt really a large area and there were about 500 people trying to dance in there at the same time. It was pretty squishy, smelly, and hot but it was rocking!

Hockey

So if you've been hearing about USU's stellar football record so far this year NEVER FEAR, because USU has a really good hockey team. I went one of their games a few days ago and it was crazy! The ice rink isn't too far from campus and a lot of students go so the place is packed. I was pleased to see that the hockey team hit harder than the football team (which isn't hard to do) but they hit significantly harder. There were three fights and lots of good plays and I got to eat churros!

Lazy Friday

This is a blog on how to correctly use a day off from school. First of all you cant have a lazy day if you have more than and hour of studying to do. Because you are in college and you pay money to be here you always study got it! That said take a lazy day whenever you feel like it even if you have 5 hours of work to do, just don't come crying to me when you suck at school.

A correct lazy day starts the night before with some kind of late night activity, basically you have to stay out late so that you don't go to bed until it is the early (or late) morning of the designated Lazy day. What time you wake up on a Lazy day is very important, if you sleep past 1 then its not a Lazy day but just a wasted day, so wake up before 1! I usually wake up around 11 and then go down to the junction for some brunch. After brunching it up you can either get your hour of work done or you can play some Guitar Hero II. Guitar Hero II is very critical to a Lazy day because it is a video game that makes you feel like you are doing something productive when your really not. After you have gotten your hour of work done and played Free Bird on Guitar Hero you can have some social interaction. You can either invite people over for more Guitar Hero or you could go over to a friends house and make food. I personally went with the food option because snacking in vital to Lazy days. After a few more hours it is dark and you can either end your Lazy day by starting a new one (by staying up late again) or you can remember that too much of anything is not so good and go to bed at a reasonable time, around 12.

Well that's the formula for a Lazy day, but remember to use sparingly.

Tango master

Today I was made tango master in my social ballroom dance class, yeah that's right tango master. We've been learning tango in my class for a few weeks and today we had the competition that the teacher said we were going to have. We had three rounds and my partner and I got tapped all three times. Then the teacher had the last five couples face the wall and had the class vote which couple was the best. And needless to say (because of the title) my partner and I were the best.

FIRE ALARMS!!

So I roll out of bed at 8:35 and have Biology at 9. So i throw on a shirt and pants, and then shoes (shoes first doesn't work too well). I get to the Marketplace in the Taggert Center which is THE place for breakfast. They have french toast, muffins, tons of cereal, and waffles. So i get myself a huge tray of a healthy balanced breakfast and sit down and take my first bite. AND as soon as i do the lights flicker, the fire alarms go off, and the Marketplace starts to empty. So i think this is RIDICULOUS! I've never been in a fire alarm that I didn't know was a drill so I figured that everyone would run out and whatnot but most everyone seemed as bored as I did about the alarm. But since it was a fire drill and people who don't leave buildings that are on fire usually don't look so good after, I left my delicious meal and walked outside to saftey. By this time my class was starting in two minutes I did not break my fast this morning. But this blog is not totally sad because Iwent back to the Marketplace for lunch and they had my favorite, chicken Cordon Bleu, awesome!

So yesterday was pretty sweet. I got my tests back and I did really good on the environmental test and not as good as I wanted to do on my math test. But it's OK because they were the first exams and now i can study better for the next ones! After classes i went to the Marketplace which is the big eating place right in the middle of campus. They have lots of cool stuff like Mexican food or Asain food. I got a hamburger and it was decent but the fries are always real good. It's sweet living on campus because you get meals built into your housing bill, and you can always add more. So after I finished some homework i rented Monty Phyton and the Holy Grail from the main office in Mountain View Towers (thats why there is the picture of the killer rabbit, it's my favorite part). I just found out yesterday that you could rent movies from the front office and when I say rent I mean you give them a dollar and they give you the movie. BUT when you turn the movie back in you get your dollar back, so its basically free. Well thats that. Hopefully i'll get to go to a rodeo tonight but its kinda dark and cold and rainy outside so maybe no we'll see.

This is my first blog and it is awesome. Since i already told you it was awesome yu can take my word for it or you can keep reading, its up to you. I probably start with a little about myself, im Quinn, im a College of Natural student and im from Philly PA (that is a very rare thing at USU but thats ok). So today I had two exams and i think i ROCKED both of them. One was in one of my environmental classes and it was all about how to sustain the environment and whatnot. I wasnt too worried about that one and it wasnt bad. The other exam was in math and i finished really quickly so that is either good or bad. Well i guess i just keep you posted on that.
